Alison McCleod Lyons
"It is to my Scottish roots, especially those on the West Coast, that I look to for inspiration in my painting. My mother was born on the Black Isle on Scotland's East Coast, while my father was born in Kilmartin in Argyll. All those who love it know that the West Coast of Scotland enjoys clear changing light and moods. It can change rapdily from bright and airy to dark and wild, and brings us some of the most breathtaking sunsets. The colours of each season are intense. It is wonderful to walk, sit or just stand and admire nature at its best. I am a self-taught artist working in a number of different media, also using my camera. Atmospheric conditions can quickly change, altering the mood, perception and even the perspective. So the photographs are a great aid - the images I have captured light a spark within me and so a desire to paint."
